Costa Calida is also renowned for it's fantastic golf courses, and equally as important - the lowest number of rainy days. Costa Calida is situated in the south-east of the Iberian Peninsula . To the north lies the Costa Blanca and to the south lies the Costa de Almeria with a total of 250 kilometers of coastline.

Blessed by the mild Mediterranean climate it has at least 315 days of sun per year. Minimum temperatures range between 12-14C and maximum temperatures between 20-22C in winter. Summer temperatures vary between 18-20C minimum and between 30-35Cmaximum. The average annual temperature is 18C.

The people are gentle and helpful, the whole region is well worth taking the time to explore and the good living is to be enjoyed.

The seawater is warm and very pleasant for bathing. It is unique in that there is a peninsula which runs parallel to the coastline thus forming the Mar Menor (small sea).

Food & Drink

Eating out in Spain is often cheap and meals are substantial rather than gourmet. One of the best ways to sample Spanish food is to try tapas , or snacks, which are served at any time of day in local bars. These range from cheese and olives to squid or meat delicacies and are priced accordingly. Many of the specialities of Spanish cuisine are based on seafood.

Spain is essentially a wine-drinking country, with sherry being one of the principal export products. There are four main types: fino (very pale and very dry), amontillado (dry, richer in body and darker in colour), oloroso (medium, full-bodied, fragrant and golden) and dulce (sweet).

The principal table wines are the riojas and valdepeñas , named after the regions in which they are produced. In general, rioja , from the region around Logroño in the northeast, resembles the French Bordeaux, though it is less delicate. Valdepeñas is a rougher wine, but pleasant and hearty. It will be found at its best in the region where it is grown, midway between Madrid and Cordóba.

Spanish brandy is as different from French as Scotch whisky is from Irish. It is relatively cheap and pleasant, although most brandy drinkers find it a little sweet.

Costa Calida beaches extend 250km from the beach of Carolina in Aguilas and a few kilometers from the province of Almeria, to El Mojon on the boundary with Alicante . The stretch of Murcian coastlines has 315 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of 17 degrees. The area offers a diverse selection of activities for the visitor including all manner of hiking, hill-climbing, water sports, and much more.

Costa Calida Beaches - Aguilas
Aguilas is surrounded by agricultural lands and the Mediterranean Sea . It offers the opportunity to enjoy a real holiday, especially in winter. It is a land full of contrasts with the intensely blue sea, rocky mountains and steep valleys, and its sandy white beaches and transparent waters.

Costa Calida Beaches - Cartagena
Cartagena is an ancient port which is the second most important city in the region and the centre of the Mediterranean Maritime Department. The coastal town of Cartagena was founded as its name implies, by the Carthaginians in 221BC.

Costa Calida Beaches - Mar Menor
The Mar Menor (Little Sea) is a unique area located on the east coast of Spain. Few regions have the good fortune to have both a saltwater lake and a Mediterranean shore. The area dates back to prehistoric times but most remains found date from the Roman and Arabic periods.
